Prairie Petals Collection
This design comes from two pieces of artwork cohesive with each otherr. Using 2 traditional forms of art, beadwork and porcupine quillwork backed on home tanned moose hide.
My vision for this fabric was to represent where I come from, the Canadian Prairies.
Manitoba’s flower is a prairie crocus, a beautiful little flower that glows pink and purple hues as the sun sets and rises. To create this effect I dyed the quills with a variation of pinks and purple dyes. There is an extensive eprocess of preparing your quills prior to working with them. Cleaning and drying them several times before you can dye them, , once you have the quills dyed you soak them for pliability and stitch them down with your choice of technique. This form of art predates the use of imported beads and goes back hundreds of years.
